This year's date for Borgate Ospitali, a wonderful event that promotes the beauty of the valley of Ospitale, is Sunday 21 July 2019.
This lovely high mountain valley, with a surprisingly rich ancient history, was once home to a large community, with a population of almost 1000 just before the First World War. Then the world and lifestyles changed, and the valley's people gradually drifted away in search of greater prosperity. But its beauty has remained.
It is dotted with lovely stone-built hamlets, impeccably maintained in traditional style by their owners, who are strongly committed to keeping the community alive.
Every year thousands of visitors invade the valley on the Borgate day to visit the various hamlets, tasting the various local speciality foods en route.
Organisation
From 11:00 hrs the local volunteer group staffs a desk in the village's main square where visitors can exchange their Euros for tokens, with which they can buy food at the various hamlets, or "borgate". The menu/map listing the fare on offer at the various stops is also available in the square.
Enjoy your visit!
